First of all I want to give you an update on Sponsorship.
John Young Signs have completed the Sponsors signs for 12 of the Tee Boards. They have now been fixed to the Tee Boards which were chosen by our Sponsors. I am pleased to say that we have a good variation of businesses which range from Car Sales, Undertaker, Building Companies, Retail, Recruitment, Restaurants, Hotel and IT.
The Matchplay Semi Finals had a closing date of the 5th September 2021 so if you have not updated us on the results please let us know. The Finals need to be completed by 6th October in order for the trophies to be engraved for our presentation night.
The 70th Anniversary of Scoonie Golf Club was celebrated by organising a Fun Day for our loyal members to enjoy. Iain Smart one of our committee members worked out the format for the day and amassed many donations from various sources including gifts from some members, also vouchers from H&C Catering (Hazel) and Steve our Pro. The day was well subscribed by our members and going by the feedback received a great success including the Pin Placements of the last 3 greens. The winning 3 teams were awarded vouchers to be used to discount their Club Membership for 2022. There was a nearest the pin on the par 3s and the longest drive on the 15th. There was also a raffle held for the remainder of prizes donated.
The Inter Club Handicap Winter League has been agreed to submit 2 Handicap Teams. Kyle Cushnie and Matt Stevenson will run the respective teams. Look out for more information on that so we can get players in the teams.
After checking your fixture list and the booking sheet we propose to carry out our green’s renovation programme at Scoonie from the 13th through to the 17th of September. The timing is to aid recovery whilst temperatures within the soil are still high. Can you please inform the members of this event, and I will make a point of updating BRS.
The work to be carried out includes scarifying, micro coring, topdressing and over seeding the greens and although this work is essential it will not be overly disruptive to the surfaces. Weather permitting, we will close 9 holes on Monday the 13th to carry out this work to its completion. Once this is achieved, we will reopen the 9 holes for play and start work on the other nine greens until completion.
I would hope weather permitting that we can have the 18 holes back in play for Friday the 17th if the weather goes with us, fingers crossed.
FGT have invested in fescue seed for the greens to improve the green surfaces further with the long-term goal a fescue dominant sward. Fescue has a very fine leaf that performs well in drought conditions which would be ideal for Scoonie given the failings of our irrigation system.
If there are any questions regarding these updates please let us know.
