It is my sad duty to inform our members that one of our past Captains, Neil Shanks, who was a long standing member of the Club has recently passed away after a long period of illness and stays in hospital. Neil served as Captain for four years and gave a lot of his time to the club.
I personally have known Neil for many years, both as a friend and fellow committee member. He was very supportive to me when I became Club Secretary and was always on hand to offer constructive and honest advice.
This short story sums up Neil as a generous and helpful friend as I am sure he has been to many others.
Many years ago Neil gave me an expensive putter to try out which improved my putting no end. I asked Neil if I could buy it and his reply I will never forget, the cost to you is £1 between friends. I am still using that putter today.
I, as well as many of his friends and fellow members will miss him.
